Arms licenses to criminals under probe

Gonda, June 11 (UNI) The arms licenses, that were granted here during the previous Samajwadi Party government to people with criminal antecedents, have come under the scanner of the newly elected Mayawati regime.

The state government has ordered a probe in all such cases,'' Superintendent of police (SP) Shachi Ghidiyal said here today.

Earlier, a preliminary inquiry in the matter had led to the suspension of then Police SP Amitabh Thakur, she informed.

Directions had been issued to reopen all such files, while five people had already been arrested for giving fake addresses in their forms, she added.

A total of 34 cases had came to light, in which FIR were lodged against eight people.
