Arunachal: Revival of sick Apex bank brings relief
Itanagar, June 11: The revival of the "sick" Arunachal Pradesh Cooperative Apex Bank would bring relief to thousands of customers from low and middle income groups, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee(APCC) president Omem Moyong Deori today said.
Reacting to opposition raised by some quarters to the Rs 225 crore revival package, the Congress chief commented that the collapse of the bank had caused untold miseries to the poor customers as they were prevented from withdrawing money for medical, educational and other personnel needs.
She, however, hoped that the bank revival would be carried out in a transparent manner for the benefit of the people.
Mrs Deori further lauded the performance of the Dorjee Khansu government within a short time by taking initiative to streamline the public distribution system(PDS) besides changing the terms and conditions of Memorandum of Understandings(MoUs) signed with power companies in favour of the government and the people.
''The improvement of PDS would ensure the availability of food grains in the remote areas of the state,'' she commented while adding that the decision to open six FCI base depots in the state would go a long way for ensuring food security to the common people in remote parts of the state.
The APCC president also supported the government initiative to tap the immense hydropower potential by including various clauses in the MoUs with power companies without compromising the interest of the indigenous people of the state.
While stating that development cannot be stopped for "petty political gains", Mrs Deori said that fear expressed by pro-environment lobby was baseless as the government was sensitive to these issues and was well prepared to address them while executing power projects in the state.
