6-member CBI team leaves for Hyderabad Mecca masjid blasts probe

New Delhi, Jun 11 (UNI) A six-member CBI team has left for Hyderabad to assist the local police in probing the May 18 blasts at the city's historic Mecca Masjid in which eleven people were killed.

The team, which left for the Andhra Pradesh capital on Saturday last, would be assisting the Hyderabad police in probing the various angles of the blasts, according to CBI sources.

Prior to this, the central agency had registered a case on June 8 in connection with the blasts. ''A single case on the blasts had been registered this Friday,'' said sources.

Meanwhile, the CBI team, which would probe the blasts, is being headed by DIG (Special Crime) Rajesh Nirvan, though he was not part of the team which left for Hyderabad, sources added.

In all 14 people were killed in the blasts and the subsequent firing on the violent mob by the police in Hyderabad.
