2 die, 108 taken ill after consuming contaminated water

Bellary, Karnataka, June 11 (UNI) Two people died and 108 were taken ill after consuming contaminated water from a well in Devara Mallapura Village, about 90 km from here today.

According to official sources, Kollappa (80) and Bommakka (45) started vomiting and died while others have been admitted to hospitals.

It is believed that consuming the water, which was mostly used for washing clothes and bathing animals, might have caused the death.

Among those reported ill, 43 were admitted to various local hospitals.

District Health Department officials rushed to the village and took steps to clean the well.

Meanwhile, drinking water was being supplied to the village through tankers.
