VCI decision not to consider GUJCET, angers students
Palanpur, Jun 10 (UNI) The Veterinary Council of India (VCI)'s decision not to admit students on the basis of entrance test conducted by Gujarat Secondary Board ''GUJCET'', has sparked-off anger among perspective students.
The students feel cheated as the notification issued by authorities earlier clearly states that the admission in various courses would be made on the basis of Common Entrance Test of the state Government.
Authorities have issued a fresh notification on June 6 asking students, seeking admission to veterinary colleges, to appear for an entrance test by paying a fee of Rs 300.
Sardar Patel Dantiwada Agricultural University Registrar H N Kher said, ''VCI has not approved the proposal to recognise GUJCET for veterinary courses.'' According to VCI the tests conducted by GUJCET are not according to syllabi set by VCI, which is the main reason that the authorities have decided to conduct a fresh separate examination.
He however said, ''Those who have not applied can also avail the opportunity now.'' Earlier a notification issued last month on May 18 by the Nodal Officer and Vice-Chancellor of Agricultural University of Anand, invited application from students for admission to BSc (Agri), B VSc&AH, Tech (Dairy) Home Science, Dairy Technology, B Fisheries and Agricultural Engineering Technology.
The applications were also for those colleges affiliated under Anand, Junagadh, Navsari and Sardar Patel Dantiwada Agricultural University in the state. The May 18 notification said the candidates were required to qualify in GUJCET for getting amitted in the veterinary colleges of the state.
However, the second notification issued on June 6 stated, ''Since the universities have not received final approval of the VCI, therefore separate entrance tests for admission to BV Sc&AH and B Tech (Dairy Technology) would be conducted.'' But the students have opposed the decision claiming that they had already paid the fee for the GUJCET, and now following the changed order, they will have to pay the fee again.
