Nagpur, June 10 (UNI) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue M G Vaidya has called for an end to political reservations in the country.

Writing in his weekly column in local Marathi daily ''Tarun Bharat'' today, Mr Vaidya said the time has come to end the reservation of constituencies of the Lok Sabha and the state legislative assemblies for scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST).

Instead, a system of multi-member representation of Lok Sabha constituencies should be introduced if the welfare of SC's and ST's was to be really achieved, he said.

Mr Vaidya said that each Lok Sabha constituency should have as many representatives as there were assembly segments in it. That many candidates at the top in terms of the number of votes polled would then represent the constituency, he also said.

Explaining the concept, Mr Vaidya said that in Maharashtra, there were six assembly segments to a Lok Sabha constituency. Thus, the candidates who had the six highest tallies would represent each Lok Sabha constituency, he said.

Each voter in the constituency would have as many votes as there were representatives to be elected, Mr Vaidya said.
