UPA Govt failed in extradating Quattrocchi: Advani

Ahmedabad, June 10 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today blamed the UPA Government for failing to extradite ottavio Quattrocchi from Argentina under a conspiracy despite the Government having sufficient evidence against him.

Elaborating the conspiracy behind Quattrocchi not being extradited to India, Mr Advani said two months back Mr Sanjay Baru at the PMO had complained to the police against Mr N D Rao for misusing Prime Minister's name.

''When police raided, they recovered Rs 2 crore in cash and some documents which showed that Rao was connected to Quattrocchi's son. That is why UPA is suppressing Quattracchi case as otherwise the skeletons in the Congress would tumble,'' Mr Advani said while addressing a public meeting here to felicitate Chief Minister Narendra Modi for setting a new record of serving the state for the longest period.

Quattrocchi is allegedly the main beneficiary in the Bofers Gun deal during former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's rule in 1988. A Delhi court has declared him absconding and still the case is pending the court.

The CBI, which is investigating case, has lost the case in an Argentine court recently and it had time till June 18 to appeal in the Argentine apex court to ensure the extraditation of Quattrocchi to India.

Meanwhilke, praising Mr Modi for setting a new record as the longest-serving chief minister of Gujarat, Mr Advani said not only in the country, but even outside, Mr Modi's administration has been praised.

''The only person who can break Mr Modi's 2063 days of rule is Modi himself, he said. It is like Sachin Tendulkar who rewrites his own records,'' he added.

He pointed to the US government refusing visa to Mr Modi earlier.

After the grand achievement of Mr Modi, the US would now want to learn how Mr Modi could do it. It is all because of his ''good governance and his integrity,'' Mr Advani said.
