Two women along with children commit suicide in separate incidents

Coochbehar, Jun 10 (UNI) Two women committed suicide along with their children in two separate incident in the last 24 hrs in the district.

Last night, Sabita Burman (22) wrapped her two children Sujit (3) and Laxmi (3 months) to her body, poured kerosene on herself and set herself and the two children on fire. The inident occurred in Metliganj sub-division's Borokamath village.

She died instantly, while her two children died on way to Jalpaiguri Hospital.

Gram Panchayat chief Monindro Chandra Das admitted that the family was reeling under intense poverty.

Four years back Pradeep Burman, the husband of the deceased, who was a van-driver, left for Delhi to earn a living. He returned three days back and sold his van.

He was now working as a labourer for a farmer in the locality.

There used to be frequent fights in their family for lack of food for the children.

Metliganj police station sources said that it was a fact that the family was suffering under pressure of poverty.

Further investigation was on to ascertain hte exact reason.

In a separate incident this evening, a woman along with her three-year-old son, jumped from a railway overbridge onto a goods train in Dodear area in the district.

The woman died on the spot, while her son was admitted to Coochbehar district hospital. The child lost a leg when the train ran over him.

They have, however, not been identified as yet, New Coochbehar General Railway Police informed.
