Thermal Power Plant opposed
Mysore, June 10 (UNI) People of Mysore and Chamalapura villagers have raised their voice against proposed 1000 Mw Thermal Power Plant to be built on Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) system at a cost of Rs 5,500 Crore at Chamlapura village, about 30 km from here.
In all 29 companies, including Tata and Reliance groups have shown interest to set up the Plant.
A campaign against the Plant was held here today by the Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM) to create awareness about the environmental threat if the project was allowed to come up. A power point presentation about the danger if the plant was commissioned was also shown.
Minister for Energy H D Revanna, recently held talks in Delhi about the project which needs 3000 acres of land and 1000 Million liters of water per day. The water was proposed to be drawn from Kabini river, about 8 km from the plant site.
Former Minister M Shivanna, MLA, present at the meeting, threatened to launch Nandigram type agitation if the State government approves the plant.
The people who attended the meeting suggested to the government to find safer power plant instead of Thermal plant, which had been dumped by many foreign countries.
