Sugarcane Growers Association demands Rs 25,000 per acre
Gulbarga, June 10 (UNI) The State Sugar cane Growers Association (SSGA) today demanded the Karnataka government to sanction a compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre to all the unharvested sugar cane crop.
Addressing newsmen here, Association President Santha Kumar said that sugar cane remained unharvested in about 12 lakh acres in the state since there was no sugar factory to buy the produce.
He demanded the government to carry out a survey and the payment of compensation be made on war footing basis as the farmers have to take up cultivation of another crop.
He deplored the government's announcement of Rs 25,000 per hectare to unharvested sugar cane crop as compensation terming it as meager and no way useful to the farmers.
He appealed to the government to constitute a high-level committee to go through the problems of sugar cane growers and suggest ways and means to solve the problems.
