Severe heat wave conditions claim 8 lives in Capital

New Delhi, Jun 10 (UNI) Eight people, including two women, died due to scalding heatwave conditions in the Capital in the last 24 hours.

While five of the deaths were reported in East Delhi, three others died in North-West Delhi, sources said.

In East Delhi, a 64-yr-old woman tourist, hailing from Andhra Pradesh who had come on a tour with her family, died on the footsteps of Akshardham Temple in Pandav Nagar area this afternoon.

Shubha Ratnam had stayed back while her family went inside for 'darshan'. She was rushed to the GTB Hospital, but was declared brought dead.

In Geeta Colony, a 36-year-old man died due to heat stroke just behind the police station last night. His identity could not be ascertained.

In Krishna Nagar, Jhilmil Colony resident Tarar Chand Rastogi fell on the footpath near Hans Nagar Apartments due to excessive heat in the afternoon and died soon after.

In Anand Vihar, near Karkardooma court a 50-yr-old man on way to the Hedgewar Hopsital, collapsed and died due to heat stroke.

In Mayur Vihar, one Baidyanath (35), a labourer, died due to heat near Samachar Apartments.

In North-West Delhi's Model Town area, near Shakti Nagar telephone exchange, the body of a 32-year-old man, who died of heat wave, was recovered at about 1730 hrs.

In Ashok Vihar, the body of Juarey (70), a homeless woman, was found dead due to heat stroke in Ashoka Garden at about 1800 hrs.

An unidentified body of a 30-year-old man was also found in Jail Wala Bagh, near railway track in Wazirpur Industrial area at about 1730 hrs. He reportedly died of heat wave.
