School children ferry water home in Bilaspur village

Shimla, Jun 10 (UNI) Children in a village in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh carry buckets to their school and home with water while returning from school following water scarcity in the entire state.

Children of Sungal village, about seven km from Bilaspur town on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, carry buckets full of water from natural sources on their way to home from their school, which is about two km away.

Residents of the village said following the problem of water scarcity in the village, bucket of water brought by the children while returning home from school were being used to feed the domesticated animals.

The village, which has about 20 houses, has been facing water scarcity since last many years and despite several reminders and complaints to the district administration, the situation has hardly changed, village Pradhan Sita Ram added.
