New Delhi, June 10 (UNI) No statement was recorded of former test cricketer Maninder Singh, convalescing at Shanti Mukund Hospital here following his alleged attempt to commit suicide by slashing his wrists yesterday, after doctors 'refused' him permission to talk to police.

Officials went to the hospital today to record Maninder's version of the event, which led to his hospitalisation yesterday, but doctors advised him a rest for one more day before he could be fit enough to make any statement, said a senior police official.

''He is expected to get his statement recorded tomorrow,'' the official said.

The former left-arm spinner, who was recently arrested by Delhi Police in a narcotics case, underwent surgery immediately after being admitted to hospital where he was rushed by his neighbours and family members.

Maninder could not make any statement to police yesterday either as his condition was critical and doctors had kept him under a 48-hour observation.

Maninder, who is presently out on bail, was arrested on May 22 for allegedly possessing 1.5 gm of cocaine along with an associate and friend Siam Siddique by the Narcotics Branch of Delhi police.

The former cricketer is said to be in a state of depression after his arrest.
