New Delhi, June 10 (UNI) A telefilm 'Kantha', portraying the collective conscience of a nation vacillating between truth and falsehood, will be premiered shortly on Doordarshan.

The telefilm is set against the backdrop of 1950s, in Allahabad, when the zamindari system was being abolished and landlords were conspiring against farmers.

The Rock Garden of India International Centre (IIC) hosted the premier of the telefilm 'Kantha' and success celebration of talk show on Doordarshan 'Aapki baithak'here yesterday evening.

Addressing the audience at IIC, television anchor Mr Mukesh Kumar said both, the telefilm and talk show, were against the current trends depicted in television channels today.

''While other talk shows indulge in sensationalism to increase their TRP ratings, 'Aapki Baithak'is a forum for discussing serious issues with panelists who are in the know of things'' he said.

He described the telefim 'Kantha' a misfit in times of Ekta Kapoor and her serials. He thanked Doordarshan for the help rendered in completing the telefilm and extolled senior journalist, Mr Virendra Mishra, director of the telefilm and talk show.

''It took four months to complete the telefilm'' said Mr Mukesh Kumar.

Ms Deepa Chandra , station director Delhi Doordarshan, narrated anecdotal accounts related to the talk show and gave due credit to Mr Mukesh Kumar and Mr Virendra Mishra for its success.

The CEO Prasar Bharti, Mr BS Lali, called for production of more off-beat telefilms like 'Kantha' and recalled his association with Allahabad, where the telefilm was shot.

A ten minutes long round up of the talk show was also screened at IIC.

Those present in the audience included former Indian Ambassador to US, Abid Hussain, Director N Chandra, and noted film producer Muzzafar Ali.
