Indian nuclear safety system foolproof: Anil Kakodkar
Chennai, June 10 (UNI) Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Chairman Anil Kakodkar today claimed that the Indian nuclear safety system was foolproof and was acclaimed internationally.
Inaugurating the Advanced Seismic Testing and Research Laboratory here, he said '' the Indian nuclear safety system was foolproof because of the calibre of Indian scientific community, which countries across the globe consider the best.'' The scientific community was responsible to the society as the institutions in which they were working were built with taxpayers' money, he added.
''You have to pay dividends for the investments made through taxpayers' money and this could be achieved only through cooperation and collaboration between various scientific bodies,'' he said.
The AEC wanted close coordination with Science Engineering Research Council (SERC), as the former's services were needed for setting up civil structures for nuclear reactors, he said.
On the occasion, CSIR Director General T Ramasami said the new laboratory would develop quake-resistance buildings that would minimise loss of lives.
Earthquakes could not be prevented but at least the loss of lives could be prevented, he added.
