Former police constable commits suicide

Nagpur, June 10 (UNI) A former police constable, who had undergone punishment for attempted murder, committed suicide here today.

According to police, Nandkishore Rambhau Fendar (39), hanged himself by cloth from the roof of his house early today.

The reason for the suicide was not yet known, the police said.

A suicide note left behind by Nandkishore stated that he was ending his life of his own accord, they said.

Nandkishore had been dismissed from service after being convicted on charges of attempted murder, the police said, adding that he had undergone 7 years of imprisonment, and had recently returned home after completing the punishment.

Nandkishore was the youngest brother of Manohar Fendar, who was convicted in 1993 of the murder of the resident editor of a local English newspaper and his two brothers. Manohar, then a police sub inspector, was convicted for shooting dead Ram Narayan Dubey, Resident Editor of Nagpur Times (since defunct), and his brothers Badri Narayan Dubey and Shyam Narayan Dubey, in October 1991. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, and was recently released for good behaviour.
