Five succumb to oppressive heatwave in Rajasthan
Jaipur, June 10 (UNI) Five people, including a centenarian and a woman, died of sunstroke in Alwar district even as heatwave conditions continued unabated in most of the parts of Rajasthan during the past 24 hours.
A report from Alwar, quoting police and hospital sources, said Andhu Khatik(100), Savitri Devi(80), Inder Khatri(76), Chitru(62) and Nandu Saini(74), all five from Naugaon in Rajgarh sub-division, had developed symptoms similar to sunstroke yesterday. They were rushed to different clinics and hospitals but they died later.
With this, at least 20 people have so far died of heatstroke or related diseases in the state.
Meanwhile, Sriganganagar, Pilani and Churu sizzled at 46 degrees Celsius. In Sriganganagar, the mercury recorded a fall of 3 degrees during the past 24 hours where as the maximum temperature recorded a fall of one degree in Churu today.
People in the state capital of Jaipur and Kota also reeled under intense heatwave with the mercury touching the mark of 45 degrees at both the places this evening. Bikaner and Jaisalmer recorded the maximum temperature of 44 degrees followed by Barmer and Ajmer at 42 degrees.
