Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, June 10 (UNI) A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide at village Baleghol in Kagal tehsil of this district, police said today.

The deceased, identified as Shivaji Balu Powar (42), committed suicide by consuming poison at his house yesterday, they said.

Powar had taken a loan of over Rs 1.5 lakh from private money lenders and local co-operative credit society. On his inability to repay the loan, he took this extreme step, the police added.
