CITU demands recognition for Taj Mahal's construction workers

Bhopal, June 10 (UNI) Amid campaign for inclusion of Taj Mahal among world's seven wonders, the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) has felt the need for public recognition of skills and labour of those who built the monument.

The CITU has demanded that a large inscription be put on stone in the Taj Mahal's premises displaying names of all those labourers and artists who spent 20 years of their life building the monument.

It is estimated that about 20,000 workers had spent their 20 years constructing the monument. Such artists must be identified and their name be put on the inscription.

In a statement issued here today, CITU General Secretary Saroj said India's pride would increase if mistakes of the past were rectified. Besides, the thinking that history revolved around kings and queens and forgot real creators of society would change.

Mr Saroj said the CITU would place the demand before the government and would make efforts to enlist support of construction workers in this regard.
