TN Bypoll: Papers of key contestants in order

Madurai, June 9 (UNI) The nomination papers of key contestants, fielded by the Congress, AIADMK, Puthiya Thamizhagam (PT), DMDK and BJP, for the June 26 by-election to the Madurai West Assembly constituency, were found to be in order on scrutiny today.

Of the total 39 nominations received, the papers of ten, all independents, were rejected.

The objection from the DMK to reject the papers of the AIADMK nominee, Sellur K Raju, was dismissed.

Nominations of K S K Rajendran (Cong), V Chitrarasu (PT), D Siva Muthukumaran (DMDK) and Sasiraman alias Seetharaman (BJP) were found to be in order.

According to the election schedule, the last date for withdrawal of nominations was June 11. Counting of votes would be taken up on June 29.
