South West monsoon brings more rains

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 9 (UNI) The South West monsoon was active over Kerala and Lakshadweep, with the two regions receiving heavyrains in the last 24 hrs, local Meteorological office here said today.

The highest rainfall of eight cm was recorded at Thalassery and Vadakara.

Kumarakom received five cm of rain, followed by CIL Kochi and Kannur -- four cm each, it said.

Alappuzha, Agathi, Kavarathi, Kollam and Thodupuzha got two cm of rains.

The Weather office said isolated heavy rains were likely over Kerala and Lakshadweep in the next 48 hrs. It also warned of strong onshore winds from the Westerly direction with speed reaching 45 and 55 kmph along and off the Kerala Coast and Lakshadweep.
