Shimla records hottest day and night during summers

Shimla, Jun 9 (UNI) Temperatures continue to rise in Himachal Pradesh with Shimla recording the hottest day and night of the summer season at 31.3 and 21.5 degree Celsius today, the met office said.

The maximum at 31.3 degrees was 7.3 degrees above normal, while the minimum at 21.5 degrees was 5.5 degrees above normal for this year of the season.

The met office said that the state capital's maximum bettered the previous high of 30.5 degrees recorded in 2005 and 29.5 degrees in 2006.

Until now, Shimla had recorded the hottest day of the season on June three, earlier this year, when mercury soared to 28.4 degree Celsius, it said.

Yesterday, the state capital had recorded a high of 29.7 and a low of 20.2 degrees.

Sundernagar in Mandi district of the state was the hottest place in the state with a maximum of 42.1 degrees as compared to 40 degrees recorded yesterday, while the maximum at Una town fell to 42 degrees from yesterday's high of 43 degrees.

The met office said the maximum at Bhuntar soared to a new high of 38.6 degree Celsius as against 37.2 degrees recorded yesterday, while Hamirpur town was hot at 42 degree.

Kalpa in Kinnuar district recorded a maximum of 25.1 degrees, while Dharamshala in Kangra district rose to 35.8 degrees from yesterday's high of 34.9 degrees.

The minimum temperature at 21.5 degrees at Shimla, made it the hottest night of the season, bettering the yesterday's high of 20.2 degrees.

The met office said the minimum at Sundernagar at 20.4, 16.7 degrees at Bhuntar and 10 degree Celsius at Kalpa was four to six degrees above normal.
