Sagalee remains cut off, chopper pressed into service
Itanagar, Jun 9 (UNI) The state government has ordered temporary chopper service to Sagalee in Papum Pare district from today for supply of essential commodities and lifting stranded passengers. Sagalee remained cut off from the rest of the country since May 20 due to landslides, erosions, damaged roads and culverts at several points between Satang and Kheel on Doimukh-Sagalee road caused by heavy downpour since the last couple of days, official sources informed.
PWD minister Nabam Tuki accompanied by public leaders reached Satang yesterday to take stock of the damages but failed to negotiate further due to heavy downpour and continuous landslides in the area.
Sagalee PWD division had engaged six bulldozers including evacuator loaders for early restoration of traffic but works were badly affected due to torrential rains, sources informed. According to the department's rough estimate, an amount of Rs five crore would be required to make the road traffic-worthy and the department concerned was also moved to sanction the estimated amount, sources added.
