People protest heavy power cut in Amethi

Amethi (Sultanpur), June 9 (UNI) Irate people of Amethi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's parliamentary seat, today took to the streets to protest the heavy load shedding, which has affected normal life.

People were facing hardships, following heavy power cut since over a fortnight, which has lead to water crises as well.

However, Rae Bareli -- the parliamentary constituency of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi -- was being supplied with electricity round the clock.

Shouting anti-Congress and anti electricity department slogans, the mob forced the shopkeepers to down their shetters down and staged demonstrations at several places, including Ghandhi Chowk.

The agitation resulted in traffic snarls for couple of hours.

Five students, who were stranded in the jam, turned unconscious and rushed to local health centre.

The locals were vexed due to the ''step-motherly'' treatment to them constituency.

The demonstartions were put off after District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar pronised an immediate improvement in the situation, police said.
