Nine dead, 17 injured in bus accident

Midnapore, June 9 (UNI) At least nine people were killed and 17 injured in a bus accident at Basantapur near here early today.

The accident occurred on National Highway six when a Kolkata-bound tourist bus from Puri rammed against a stationary loaded truck, Superintendent of Police of West Midnapore district R Rajshekharan said.

Six people died on the spot, while three died at the Midnapore Medical College. Among the injured, the condition of six people was stated to be critical.

All the passengers, belonging to the Sunderban areas, were returning from a pilgrimage to Puri, the SP added.
