New cultural policy to be introduced in Karnataka

Mysore, Jun 9 (UNI) Karnataka Kannada and Culture minister H S Mahadeva Prasad today disclosed that a new cultural policy would be introduced during the next assembly sessions.

Addressing media persons here he said that the government had already received two draft reports from the experts and the ministry had instructed the department to resubmit the report within next 15 days to the government with modifications in the report.

The new cultural policy was necessary to implement various works in the department and it would also seek the suggestions from the experts in the field of culture in the state. The new policy draft would be introduced in the next assembly session for its approval.

Mr Mahadeva Prasad said the Viswha Kannada Sammelan would be held at Belgum in the September end this year. A meeting has been called on June 13 at Belgaum to discuss various things including the preparation for the mega event.

Stating that the Janapada Jatre, which received good response in Bangalore last year would be continued in other parts of the state after consulting the sub committee headed by Chief Minister H D Kumraswamy. The department had earmarked the budget allocation of Rs 83 crore of which Rs five crores would spent for the Janapda Jatre in the state.

Mr Prasad also announced that for the first time the Kannada and Culture department has been organising national level universities students drama competitions during the September which would be hosted by the Mysore University.

In all 13 universities of the state and five universities from across the country expected to participate in the events. In the event the universities has to represent two teams and select only Kannada dramas. These events would be held on the part of the Survana Karnataka in the state.

These events would be made annual affair in the coming years with the consultation of the universities to encourage drama activities in the state particularly to enrich the Kannada language. He added.
