Guwahati, June 09 (UNI) Monsoon has finally arrived in the NE and almost all the states will experience drizzle to smart showers in the next few days.

The Regional Meteorology Centre(RMC) here yestrerday declared the onset of monsoon in the region. Deputy Director General of Meteorology (DDGM) of RMC Dr R.P.Samui confimed that monsoon has set in the region resulting in a dip in the mercury level.

RMC sources said the city received 11.2 mm of rainfal this morning. ''There will be more rain in the next two to three days throughout the region,'' RMC sources said.

Normal date for onset of monsoon over Guwahati is June 3. The delay in the Bay branch of monsoon current had delayed the arrival of monsoon in the NE by a week, RMC source said.

This development was attributed to the severe cyclonic storm formed over the Arabian Sea, which had been moving north-westward and had finally entered the Somalian coast.

The paucity of rain over Asom, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh was set to be neutralised in this span of rainfall, the RMC source claimed.

Drought-like situation in 2006, due to scanty rains, had led to a wide spread apprehension about a possible change in the climatic conditions of the region.
