Man gets 10-year jail for killing wife

Sangrur, June 9 (UNI) A local court today sentenced a man to ten years' imprisonment for killing his wife for dowry.

Additional Sessions Judge D S Malwai also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Amandeep Singh of Dharmagarh village who was convicted of burning his wife Beant Kaur to death on January 20, 2006.

The judge ruled that the convict would have to undergo an additional two-year imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.

The court, however, acquitted Amandeep's father Sukwinder Singh and mother Amandeep Kaur, who were co-accused in the case, for lack of evidence.
