Kolkata, June 9 (UNI) Distancing itself from taking any decision on Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's demand for giving back land to the 'unwilling' Singur farmers, the ruling Left Front in west Bengal today said the state Government would look into it.

''It is the Government which will do whatever is justified in this regard. We (Left Front) have not discussed anything on land, because we will not be able to come to a conclusion... it is not within the Front's jurisdiction to instruct the Government on what it should do,'' front Chairman Biman Bose told reporters after a Left Front meeting.

He said veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu had apprised the Government of what Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee had told him on Singur during a meeting on June 4. ''The demand realised have to be discussed with the state Government,'' he said.

Today's Left Front meeting welcomed the talks between the two leaders, Mr Buse said.

Alleging that 402 out of a total of 997 acres of land acquired for the Tata Motors' small car project at Singur had been taken against the owners' wishes, Ms Banerjee demanded that the plots be returned to them.

In reply to a question, Mr Buse said Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had invited the Trinamool leader for talks several times in the past and the state government was ready to hold a dialogue with her.

The front Chairman's statement came a day after Mr Jyoti Basu hinted at a formula on the demand being worked out by Industry Minister Nirupam Sen, listing out the legal difficulties and dealing with various aspects of the issue.

Referring to the situation in Nandigram, Mr Basu said the peace process that started would continue and it would be supplemented by the district administration till normalcy returned to the area.
