Inter-state dacoits gang held, cash recovered

Bangalore, June 9 (UNI) The city police and sleuths from Thiruvananthapuram, have busted an inter-state dacoits gang involved in the daylight robberies by tracking and waylaying real estate firms employees.

Acting swiftly after the gang robbed the employees of a construction firm of Rs ten lakh on May 31 here, the police tracked and nabbed three persons identified as Krishna Das alias Sivashankar Nair, Aneesh alias Jayadhar Nair and Jeevan alias Sharathchandra hailing from Kerala at Thiruvananthapuram on June 6, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gopal Hosur told mediapersons today.

He said on the information from the arrested, police nabbed three more persons-- Vijay, driver of the vehicle belonging to the firm from which the cash was robbed and Francis Xavier, both from Madikeri and Sashidharan Thambi in the city. A cellphone call, made by one of the accused, had led to the tracking of the case.

The gang had waylaid the employees of the firm, which had drawn Rs 1.2 crore from a bank in the city on May 31. They threatened them at gunpoint and snatched away a small bag in which Rs ten lakh had been kept. However, the bigger bag in which the remaining cash was kept was not taken.

Of the six arrested, four were highly-educated, hailing from respectable families with one of them working as a software engineer in a city-based company. All the arrested were in their twenties, Mr Hosur said adding Vijay, allegedly passed on the information of the withdrawal of the cash by the firm to the gang.

Police have seized Rs 6.2 lakh from the accused. The arrested would be produced in a court today, the joint commissioner aded.
