Gujjars resolve to defeat Vasundhara in next assembly elections

Kota, Jun 9 (UNI) A congregation of Gujjars from Harauti region today resolved to mobilise the community to vote against Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in her Jhalrapatan assembly constituency in Jhalawar district during the next assembly elections, due by the end of 2008.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the divisional ''Gujjar Mahapanchayat'' held in Ranpur on the Kota Jhalawar Road, near here to protest the Chief Minister's ''anti Gujjar'' stand during the week-long agitation by the community for ST status.

The resolution said the participants of today's congregation would not only themselves vote against Ms Raje but also ensure that their entire family do the same.

The resolution was adopted against the Chief Minister in the presence of at least two ruling BJP MLAs, Prahlad Gunjal and Attar Singh Bhadana.

Talking to UNI Mr Gunjal said, ''It was a community verdict and we are not above the community.'' ''We are unlikely to face disciplinary action by the party as neither we have initiated the move nor the resolution is directed against the BJP,'' he added.

This was a Gujjar community decision against an individual, Mr Gunjal reiterated.
