Hyderabad, June 9 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today alleged that contrary to the claims of the CPI(M) State Committee, lands of farmers were forcibly acquired for locating Tata's car factory at Singur in West Bengal.

Rebutting the CPI(M)'s claims that the land was obtained with the consent of the farmers, the CLP said the agitation of the farmers, still rocking the administration, showed that the lands were not given away voluntarily.

A CLP delegation, led by Government Chief Whip N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who visited West Bengal along with mediapersons to know the ground reality, in a statement here, said that several claims of the party's State Committee on the policies adopted there proved to be hollow.

Interestingly, the CPI(M) State Committee had launched 'Bhooporatam' (land grabbing movement) in Andhra Pradesh, demanding allocation of house sites for the poor.

The CLP said the condition of rural areas was pathetic in the absence of proper roads, power and drinking water. Schemes for housing, pensions and Dalit welfare were lacking, the release added.

The CLP claimed that the delegation found that starvation deaths had become the order of the day in the northern parts of the State, particularly in Amlashore tea gardens, while the public distribution system was almost non-existent.
