CII, Marg sign MoU to train unskilled workers

Chennai, June 9 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Marg Constructions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch their 'Grassroots Level Skill Development Initiative (GLSDI) here today.

Talking to newspersons, CII Chairman B Santhanam said the specific objective of CII-Marg GLSDI project would be to generate social inclusiveness and provide socially and economically vulnerable youth a chance to be part of the mainstream economy.

"The initiative would also bridge the gap between the demand and supply of skilled human resources in the entire Sriperumbudur and Oraggadam Cheyyur blocks that are potential zones for extensive development in engineering and IT sectors", he added.

The industry-specific training of CII-Marg GLSDI would include construction masonry, electrical wiring and plumbing, glacing practice, automobile and auto refrigeration and other related services.

Under the MoU, Marg would fund the project to the extent of one crore, which was expected to be completed in 18 months.

On behalf of Marg, CII will establish the requisite infrastructure to moblise and generate trainees amongst needy and employable youth in the districts of operation.

About 5000 youths are expected to benefit from the initative.

A monitoring committee comprising officials from prominent industry leaders and CII office bearers will guide the initiative.
