Army gets Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award

Chandigarh, Jun 9 (UNI) The Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army today received the Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award for the year 2007.

The presentation ceremony was held at Palampur in Himachal Pradesh where the World Environment Forum is conducting a daylong convention on 'Climate Change'.

The Corps of Engineers was selected for the award by the World Environment Foundation, under the Chairmanship of Justice PN Bhagwati, a defence release said.

The award has been given in recognition for the yeomen work done by the Corps of Engineers in arresting environmental degradation and instituting energy conservation measures in all cantonments and military stations across the country.

''The path breaking efforts instituted include planned afforestation, water conservation projects, drip irrigation projects, recycling of swimming pool water, soil conservation, rain water harvesting and projects relating to renewable energy sources,'' the release said.
