AITC on "chaka bandh" demanding return of land to farmers

Nadia, Jun 9 (UNI) All India Trinamool Congress(AITC) today went on ''chaka bandh'' vehicular strike) on NH 34, demanding return of government acquired land in Singur and restoration of peace in the area.

Police were are on high alert and trying to push back the agitators, as Trinamool Congress supporters blocked the highway, covering 22 areas, from the district's Palasi to Karimpur and Kalyani's Jaguli.

The bandh has been called between 1700 - 1800 hrs.

All vehicular traffic has been barred, except for emergency services.
