80 quintals coins seized, 2 traders taken into custody
Gorakhpur, June 9 (UNI) Police raided the residential premises of two city-based traders and seized 80 quintals of coins late last night, reports today said.
SSP Rajesh Kumar Rai said acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of Sardarilal Arora and Shyam Arora at Purdilpur locality in Kotwali area and seized coins in the denomination of Re one, Rs 2, Rs 5, besides 10, 25 and 50 paise.
The coins, weighing 80 quintals, were stuffed in plastic bags and cardboard boxes, Mr Rai added.
The duo, who traded in torn currency notes, were taken into custody for interrogation. Meanwhile, a reward of Rs 2,500 was announced for the police team.
Shop-keepers have been facing problems of late due to acute shortage of coins.
