Nashik, June 9 (UNI) As many as 216 gunner recruits of the Artillery centre took part in a glittering passing out-cum attestation parade here today.

Artillery Centre Commandant Brigadier S S Chohan reviewed the parade and appreciated the high standards exhibited by the recruits.

He goaded them to uphold the rich traditions of the Army in general and artillery in particular.

The smart turn out and precise marching movements won much applause from the audience, an official release said here.

On the occasion, Brig Chohan presented trophies to best recruits in physical training, drill, weapon training and overall best recruits.

Jaswant Singh was adjudged as the best recruit in physical training. The others were Ukade Ramdas (best in drill), Jagseer Singh (best recruit in weapon training), Rajive Kumar (best gunner), Shashi Pal (best technical assistant), Satnam Singh (best operator) and Kamlesh Kumar (best driver mechanical transport). All round best recruit trophy went to mechanical transport driver Karam Singh.

The Artillery Centre, considered to be the biggest recruits training centre in Asia, is nestled between Nasik and Devlali. On an average, about 2,000-3,000 recruits join the proud family of gunners every year after a rigorous training for 42 to 50 weeks. The training consists of basic training for 19 weeks in which a raw recruit is trained to achieve high standards of physical fitness, weapon handling and drill. Thereafter, he graduates to higher levels of specialised training, where he learns to be a gunner, operator, driver or a technical assistant for an additional 19-25 weeks, the release added.
