2 killed, IAF pilot hurt in road mishap

Varanasi, June 9 (UNI) Two people were killed and two others, including an Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot, seriously injured when the SUV they were travelling in overturned in the Rohania area here today.

Squadron Leader Abhay Pratap Singh (27) posted near Lucknow was on his way to join duty at the Eastern Air Command station in Jalpaiguri (Bengal). He was accompanied by brother Ashutosh (30) and friend Naman (24).

When they reached Rohania their SUV overturned after hitting the rear of a truck causing serious injuries to all four, including driver Mohd Anwar.

They were rushed to the district hospital where the doctors pronounced the driver as dead on arrival, while the pilot's friend Naman succumbed to injuries later.

The pilot and his brother were stated to be in a critical condition.

A team of doctors from Lucknow has arrived for shifting the young pilot and his borther to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow.
