12 years' imprisonment for drug peddler

Sangrur, June 9 (UNI) A special court today sentenced a drug peddler to 12 years' imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh.

Additional Sessions Judge D S Malwai, while giving the verdict, said the convict, Satgur Singh, would have to go an additional two years' imprisonment if he failed to give the fine.

Satgur, a resident of Majhi village of the district, was arrested along with his accomplice Bharpur Singh on June 30, 2004, while they were carrying 36 kg of poppy husk in a truck. The other accused, Bharpur, however, died during the proceedings of the case.
