12 smugglers expresses their desire to leave smuggling

Hoshiarpur, June 9 (UNI) A drive against drug-peddlers in the district has resulted in about a dozen smugglers, including 7 women, giving up the smuggling of poppy husk and smack trade.

They appeared before the Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Hoshiarpur, Opinderjit Singh Ghuman in his office today and expressed their desire to leave the smuggling of poppy husk and smack trade and to adopt some other respectable work.

These smugglers of narcotic drugs, including 7 women, belonged to Maggopatti and Sarhala Kalan villages of Mahilpur block.

They told the SP (H) that they were fed up with the police raids on their houses due to their indulgence in the poppy husk and smack trade. They wanted to lead a peaceful and honest life.

They assured the SP that all of their family members would take oath according to the rituals of their community to leave this illegal trade for ever. However, they sought assurance from the SP that police would not raid their houses in future.

Mr Ghuman told them that police would not harass any of them in future unnecessarily. But, in case of any information about their indulgence in drug smuggling trade, police would take action accordingly.

He told them that he would take up the matter with the SSP and after getting necessary instructions, he would come to their village soon and would participate in the oath taking ceremony.
