Varanasi Central Jail inmates on hunger strike

Varanasi, June 8 (UNI) Over 300 inmates of the Central Jail here this afternoon went on a hunger strike against the inadequate supply of drinking water in the prison.

Circle II of the prison which houses over 300 inmates went on hunger strike and raised slogans against the jail administration, jail sources said, as part of the agitation they also boycotted the lunch.

After getting the information of the incident administrative and police officials,including Additional District Magistrate (ADM-City)Indra Vikram Singh and Police Superintendent (City) Arun Pandey rushed to the jail. Efforts were on to end the crisis.

Reserve police force from the city police lines has been rushed to the jail, which also houses terrorists.
