Third front not feasible at this juncture: JD(U)
New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav today said the efforts to launch a Third Front by some political parties was not feasible at this juncture as the conditions were not conducive.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Yadav said though some political parties tried to present a third alternative by holding a meeting in Hyderabad recently, but it was not possible to launch such a front now as most of them were now part of either UPA or NDA coalitions.
The earlier constituents of the Third Front be it DMK or RJD are now with UPA while JD(U), BJD and Akali Dal with NDA.
Regarding the JD(U)'s stand on Presidential election, he said the NDA had given a call for a consensus candidate for the President's post but the UPA had not yet taken any initiative on this. He said the NDA has authorised former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to deliberate on the issue among the coalition partners as well as with other parties.
About Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat contesting as an independent candidate, Mr Yadav said voting for the President is ''generally independent and conscious based''.
Asked about the JD(U)'s stand on the Gujjar's demand for Scheduled tribe status, Mr Yadav said a Committee has already been constituted by the Rajasthan government in this regard.
