Teenager attempts to end life after police "inaction"

Barasat, Jun 8 (UNI) An 18-year-old girl attempted self-immolation after the police allegedly refused to lodge her complaint thrice in North Parganas' Ashoknagar police station.

Latika Das was admitted to the Habra State General Hospital with severe burns and was later referred to the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Police, however, registered a case yesterday and arrested a couple, who had allegedly abducted the girl and kept her hostage.

She managed to flee and went to the Ashoknagar police station thrice to lodge a complaint. But the policemen allegedly refused to take any action following which Latika took the extreme step.

Police said the couple was arrested and investigation was on.
