Spices export post 61 per cent growth in April
Kochi, June 8 (UNI) A total quantity of 38,972 tonnes of spices worth Rs 333.03 crore were exported in April, notching up a growth of 44 per cent in quantity and 61 per cent in value, compared to the corresponding period last year.
A Spices Board release here today said chilli contributed 38 per cent in export earnings followed by spice oils and oleoresin, including mint products, 36 per cent and pepper six per cent.
During the period, 22,000 tonnes of chilli valued at Rs 126.50 crore were exported, recording an increase of 231 per cent in quantity and 320 per cent in value, compared to 6,444 tonnes at Rs 30.11 crore in the same period last year.
The cardamom exports registered a growth of 173 per cent in quantity and 142 per cent in value for 200 tonnes worth Rs two crore.
Coriander exports during the period were recorded at 2,100 tonnes valued at Rs 7.24 crore, fennel exports at 750 tonnes worth Rs 4.12 crore and 1,500 tonnes of fenugreek valued at Rs 4.12 crore.
Mint products worth Rs 81.60 crore were exported during the period as against Rs 54.28 crore last year, the release added.
