Bhubaneswar, Jun 08 (UNI) Orissa Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty today rejected a privilege motion brought by Orissa Gana Parishad member Arun Dey against Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik.

In his ruling Mr Mohanty said he did not consider the reply of the Chief Minister, to a question of Mr Dey, had tarnished the image of the house.

Mr Dey, while moving the privilege notice against the Chief Minister on June 5 last, stated that the latter in responding to his question on the number of Commissions of Inquiry constituted by the government and their status and that the fact was under collection.

The OGP member maintained while the Home department, under the Right to Information Act, had provided detailed information on the number of Commissions set up by the government to common citizen a month back, the Chief Minister in response to his question on June 4 last, had made a casual remark stating that the materials were under collection.

This amounted to denigration of the house, Mr Dey said.

But the Speaker ruled that the questions raised by Mr Dey was more wide then the answer supplied by the Home department and observed that the reply of the Chief Minister could not be construed as disrespect to the house.
