Thiruvananthapuram, June 8 (UNI) The South West monsoon, after a lull of nine days, has revived over Kerala, causing in heavy and widespread rains all over the state.

The Monsoon flow was weak over the state because of the effects cyclone Gonu, local meteorological officials here said today.

Two days after the onset of monsoons in the Kerala coast on May 29, the currents drifted away because of a low pressure formation and other reasons, which had weakened its progress, the officials said.

The monsoons had again revived after the weakening due to cyclone Gonu that hit Oman. The moisture and wind pressure had returned, bringing in widespread rains in the state, they said, adding it was progressing towards the north.

The weather office said isolated heavy rains were likely over south Kerala and Lakshadweep in the next 48 hours. The northern parts of the state would get scattered heavy rains, it added.

It said many places in Kerala and Lakshadweep received heavy rains and the highest rainfall of ten cm was recorded at Koilandi, followed by eight-cm at Thirtalla.

Karipur Airport received six cm of rains, followed by Pattambi, Kottayam, Varkala, Nedumangad and Kollam who recieved four cm each.

Enamakkel, Kanjirapally and Agathi got three cm of rains, the office added.
