Salem sent in judicial custody till July 2

New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) A city court today remanded underworld don Abu Salem in judicial custody till July 2.

Salem, who was brought here from Mumbai in connection with the extortion cases was today produced before Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Ravinder Kaur, who sent him in judicial remand for 24 days.

According to the prosecution, Salem had allegedly made threatening calls to one South Delhi contractor Ashok Kumar Gupta to extort an amount of Rs 5 crore and was later declared a proclaimed offender in this matter due to his non-appearance in the court. Salem, an accused in the 1993 Bombay serial blasts, was produced before the ASJ in pursuance of production warrant issued by Delhi court for him on April 17.

There are three criminal cases registered against him here-- two cases related to attempt to extortion and one under MCOCA for threatening Ashok Kumar Gupta.
