On-line Ayurveda consultation at the click of a mouse
Kochi, June 8 (UNI) A German-based travel and medical tourism company ''Aymex'' has launched 'ayurveda-portal.com' to provide a one-stop shop for tourists looking for treatment, including on-line consultation, in the ancient Indian medical system.
The portal is being marketed to service providers and is likely to be made public in September this year, Aymex Managing Director Joseph Kaduthanam said addressing a press conference here today.
''Apart from giving information on 18 categories of service-providers, ranging from doctors and hospitals to resorts and hotels, the portal will also have facilities for on-line consultation with Ayurveda doctors and instant reservation at hospitals and resorts,'' he said.
The portal would also provide information on the principles of Ayurveda, diet and recipes, treatments and therapies and medicinal herbs. It would also have pages for customer rating and press releases.
Citing Kerala tourism department figures that the state expected to draw 100,000 medical tourists by 2010, he said Ayurveda was already a huge draw for tourists from countries such as Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Austria.
''These people are looking at Ayurveda not only for its wellness or rejuvenation therapies but also for therapeutic cures for conditions like paralysis and neurlogical disorders which are difficult to treat in other systems of medicine,'' he said.
Stating that many doctors in the West were getting interested in Ayurveda, Mr Kaduthanam said Aymex planned to start an R&D centre and a training college in Wayanad district of Kerala, at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore, to train allopathic doctors from India and abroad in Ayurvedic systems.
At present there were no proper facilities for Allopathic doctors to get trained in Ayurveda, he said.
