NFC to set up new production facility for PFBR in TN

Hyderabad, June 8 (UNI) Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) Chief Executive R N Jayaraj today announced that the NFC would set up a new facility for the production of various critical assemblies required for the forthcoming Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said construction of the facility would be completed in 2009 and productionwill start in early 2010. This facility will help in meeting the requirements of core assemblies for fast breeder reactors, he added.

Stating that the construction of Zirconium Complex at Pazhayakayal in Tamil Nadu to augment its capacities in the production of Zirconium Oxide and Zirconium Sponge materials was in progress, Mr Jayaraj said the plant would be commissioned by the end of this financial year.

He said that this year had witnessed introduction of some important products in the production line like seamless hexagonal tubes for PFBR, manufactured at the special pilger mill in the NFC.
