Mob creates ruckus over youth's death

Mirzapur, June 8 (UNI) Agitated over the death of a youth, villagers of Manikpur created a ruckus and blocked the Varanasi-Shaktinagar highway for several hours today.

The agitators alleged the deceased Ram Vilas was severely beaten by police and had sustained grievious internal wounds, following which he succumbed today.

Vilas was held on February 6, 2007 for possessing drugs and sent to jail.

On March 5, he was released on bail. However, Vilas' health continued to deteriorate and he finally died today, his family members alleged.

The agitation, which created traffic snarls for hours could only be put off after police assured action in this regard.

Meanwhile, Rs 2,500 compensation was also paid to the family of the deceased.
